Today’s Talkers – Friday 9/24

In today’s talkers:

You won’t see video of singer katy perry performing with elmo on sesame street.

It was supposed to air later this year — but showed up on youtube early.

Parents started complaining — saying perry was showing way too much cleavage.

So Sesame Street decided to pull it.

Here’s my thoughts… get over it people! Stop being so sensitive. The video is not offensive. The movie the little mermaid shows more cleavage than perry did in that video.

Let’s talk about the drama brewing in the ashton kutcher world…

It’s the sad news that has the celebrity gossip blogs buzzing.

Star magazine reports that kutcher has had affairs with at least two women who are about half demi’s age.

One source says demi might even know about it — saying the couple has a “don’t ask, don’t tell policy.”

This is my view: If that’s the policy they have agreed to, then that’s their business, not ours.

Don’t put your beliefs on them.

Also, this young woman should be shamed for going after a married man. It’d rediculous that she’s making money off of “allegedly” sleeping with ashton.

Bishop eddie long and the alleged sex scandal that has rocked his megachurch.

He will be speaking publicly at his megachurch sunday at 11 in the morning.

I think he needs to sit down one on one with oprah and tell all. He owes that to his congregation.

My Trip to Savannah

Wow. Where do I even begin. I decided to explore Georgia. I wanted to go places that I had always heard about, but had never seen it with my own eyes. The entire month of October I am taking weekend trips to different parts of the peach state. I figured fall would be a perfect time to do it because of the changing of the seasons…. and there are great fall speacials at some of the most exclusive hotels and resorts!

I had always heard about “The Mansion Hotel” in Savannah. I checked them out online and decided I’d go and check it out. Yes, its on the more expensive side, but if you book it right, you can get a room there at a great price Sunday through Thursday!

I drove from my home in midtown Atlanta and it took about 4 hours to get to Savannah. When we finally got there I literally kept saying “wow! wow! wow!” It was everything I had imagined the city to be like. The live oak trees with the moss hanging perfectly from the tree limbs took my breath away. It was truly a tunnel of trees. Every street, every turn, every home had these stunningly beautiful trees.

We made a turn onto Drayton Street looking for the hotel and then suddenly I turned to my friend and said “Oh wow!! I think this is it!” The Mansion is located on the beautiful Forsyth Park and from the moment you pull into the arrival area, its simply breathtaking. Its really a mansion! The attention to detail is something out of this world. You just don’t see this type of decor anymore! Its a boutique hotel with rich and chic furniture at every turn. The staff was so welcoming and attentive from the moment we met with the concierge.

As we headed to our guest suite, we walked down a long hallway that was lined with beautiful artwork and chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. The Mansion is a restored Victorian-Romanesque mansion in the historic district. It has 126 rooms and is part of the Kessler Collection.

As I mentioned before, the decor is simply stunning. The furniture is one of a kind Versace!! And as many of you know I am an artist too, so I was simply amazed by how much original artwork covers the walls. In fact, 400 pieces are spread throughout the hotel!

Whats also cool: 700 Kitchen Cooking School! You can learn to cook exquisite cuisine while on vacation! How cool is that! Whether your a chef or a cooking novice (like me) you can enjoy an amazing culinary experience and learn how to craft delectable creations.

And in case you need to catch a few rays… just lay out by a gorgeous dipping pool. It is surrounded by soothing water fountains and immediately takes you to paradise.

Okay… once I left the hotel I walked… and walked… and walked the streets of Savannah. Honestly, it is now my one of my favorite cities in the US (top 3). The history… the architecture, the trees, the food… its amazing. We of course walked River Street and toured all the historic areas and attractions.

The next day we escaped to Tybee Island. The temperature outside was 72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky and not a single person on the island. I LOVED it. We layed out for hours and hours listening to the waves crash. I grew up on the beach in Laguna Beach California so it was nice to get on the sand (I feel land locked in the ATL).

We ate at the famous crab shack and I have to admit the food was really fresh and tasty! and I’m not the biggest fan of seafood!

If you are looking for something fun to do this fall, check out Savannah and The Mansion Hotel! Here’s the secret: book Sunday through Thursday and you will find amazing deals at some of the poshest hotels…. including The Mansion!

Next time I’m in Savannah… I hear The Bohemian Hotel which overlooks the Savannah River is “the place to stay”

My Favorite Things

Soooo… all this week on Better Mornings Atlanta I am not only showcasing my “Favorite Things”… we are giving them away to lucky viewers!!

on Monday we gave away a Schwinn Mountain Bike and a North Face Meadowland 6 tent. I have a goal this summer and that is to camp outdoors for one full weekend. no hotels, no campers allowed. I am going to force myself to sleep in a tent. You’ve also gotta be able to bike ride on the mountain trails too!

Today (Tuesday) we gave away a pair of APL (athletic propulsion logistics) Basketball Sneakers. These are so awesome! and anyone who knows me… knows that I am a sneaker freak! I love shoes… and these are on my favorite list! They are actually banned by the NBA because they give you an extra 3″ bounce when you go for a dunk or if you go up for a rebound. if you dont play ball… dont worry these sneaks are stylish too!

we also gave away a pair of Audio-Technica Pro Series headphones. Recording artists and DJ’s use them…. and they are awesome! the style is sick! they are camoflouge!! how cool is that … and they are oversized. i think they are cooler than Dr Dre Beats!

bin laden is dead

i woke up this morning to a text message from my sister in california telling me bin laden was killed by NAVY SEALS.

I was in shock.. in disbelief that he was actually dead.

I lived in NYC on 9-11. I stood on top of 30 Rock (NBC’s flagship building) and watches as both towers collapsed to the ground.

i lived in downtown manhattan at the time while i was in college at NYU.

I was never allowed back in my apartment because of asbestos.

I have home video of the ash and debris everywhere on the ground in lower manhattan. i wore a mask to protect my lungs from toxins in the air for weeks because you could smell the dead bodies.

i hope the death of bin laden brings some peace and to those who lost loved ones on 9-11.

and i hope that this proves beyond politics, that our president is committed to winning the war on terror.

The Royal Wedding

so the day has finally come and gone. Princess Kate looked absolutely stunning in her wedding gown. Prince Williams looked very sharp in his military suit.

The wedding, in my opinion, was very frigid. It looked as if Kate wanted to smile but was so nervous she couldn’t even make eye contact with William. I wish there would have been a little more personality and warmth to the wedding. But, I guess it must be scary to have 2 Billion people watching your every move on what is supposed to be the most important day of your life.

I thought it was awesome that they kissed twice!! That shows their youth and that was the best part.

Have a great weekend everyone! See you bright and early monday morning..

10/4 Glass Blowing

He’s one of the top glass blowing artists in the world.

“Tadashi the glass warrior. The artist..” Tadashi Torri says as he introduces himself.

He’s known as the “glass warrior”. He creates pieces that are truly one of a kind.

Take a close look at the detail. The shapes,  the designs, and uses of color.

This piece took him 12 hours to create and it will sell for 6 thousand dollars.

He’s even created a special glass for halloween that glows in the dark..

Tadashi came to the u-s from japan for school majoring in business..

Torii explains his decision to drop out of business school, “one day i got so stressed out.. i went to the fine art department and i found this glass blowing studio on the campus..”

He traded business for art. He says it’s his true calling and there’s no doubt he’s a born artist…

“I have fun. I’m expressing myself fully and I’m so happy.”

He teaches classes at duckbill studios and he wanted to show me how to create art..

Brandon reacts, “Whoa that’s hot. That’s awesome..”

After we dipped the rod into the melted glass we then added a little color and we melted it all together.

That furnace is 23 hundred degrees hot! You have only seconds to shape the glass and you do that by blowing air into the steel rod…

Torii demonstrates, “From your gut… okay stop. that was pretty cool.”

Its a process that takes hours constantly turning the glass and shaping it by blowing air. Trust me it is a lot of work.

Torii explains, “Press it that way without changing angle. Literally you’re the creator so you can say stop wherever you want to stop. It’s perfect.”

And with one quick tap we finished our glass piece.

“hit it like this? That’s it!” Torii shouts.
