Wow. Where do I even begin. I decided to explore Georgia. I wanted to go places that I had always heard about, but had never seen it with my own eyes. The entire month of October I am taking weekend trips to different parts of the peach state. I figured fall would be a perfect time to do it because of the changing of the seasons…. and there are great fall speacials at some of the most exclusive hotels and resorts!
I had always heard about “The Mansion Hotel” in Savannah. I checked them out online and decided I’d go and check it out. Yes, its on the more expensive side, but if you book it right, you can get a room there at a great price Sunday through Thursday!
I drove from my home in midtown Atlanta and it took about 4 hours to get to Savannah. When we finally got there I literally kept saying “wow! wow! wow!” It was everything I had imagined the city to be like. The live oak trees with the moss hanging perfectly from the tree limbs took my breath away. It was truly a tunnel of trees. Every street, every turn, every home had these stunningly beautiful trees.
We made a turn onto Drayton Street looking for the hotel and then suddenly I turned to my friend and said “Oh wow!! I think this is it!” The Mansion is located on the beautiful Forsyth Park and from the moment you pull into the arrival area, its simply breathtaking. Its really a mansion! The attention to detail is something out of this world. You just don’t see this type of decor anymore! Its a boutique hotel with rich and chic furniture at every turn. The staff was so welcoming and attentive from the moment we met with the concierge.
As we headed to our guest suite, we walked down a long hallway that was lined with beautiful artwork and chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. The Mansion is a restored Victorian-Romanesque mansion in the historic district. It has 126 rooms and is part of the Kessler Collection.
As I mentioned before, the decor is simply stunning. The furniture is one of a kind Versace!! And as many of you know I am an artist too, so I was simply amazed by how much original artwork covers the walls. In fact, 400 pieces are spread throughout the hotel!
Whats also cool: 700 Kitchen Cooking School! You can learn to cook exquisite cuisine while on vacation! How cool is that! Whether your a chef or a cooking novice (like me) you can enjoy an amazing culinary experience and learn how to craft delectable creations.
And in case you need to catch a few rays… just lay out by a gorgeous dipping pool. It is surrounded by soothing water fountains and immediately takes you to paradise.
Okay… once I left the hotel I walked… and walked… and walked the streets of Savannah. Honestly, it is now my one of my favorite cities in the US (top 3). The history… the architecture, the trees, the food… its amazing. We of course walked River Street and toured all the historic areas and attractions.
The next day we escaped to Tybee Island. The temperature outside was 72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky and not a single person on the island. I LOVED it. We layed out for hours and hours listening to the waves crash. I grew up on the beach in Laguna Beach California so it was nice to get on the sand (I feel land locked in the ATL).
We ate at the famous crab shack and I have to admit the food was really fresh and tasty! and I’m not the biggest fan of seafood!
If you are looking for something fun to do this fall, check out Savannah and The Mansion Hotel! Here’s the secret: book Sunday through Thursday and you will find amazing deals at some of the poshest hotels…. including The Mansion!
Next time I’m in Savannah… I hear The Bohemian Hotel which overlooks the Savannah River is ”the place to stay”
